Why Drive Aloha

Hawaii is an island state with a population of about 1.4 million. Unfortunately, the traffic fatality rate in Hawaii over the last ten years is nearly twice as high as U.S. states with the best safety record.

For example, in 2017, the traffic fatality rate in Hawaii was 7.5 per 100,000 people, as compared to 4.47 in states with the least traffic fatalities. In 2018, there were 117 traffic fatalities in Hawaii, a 10 percent increase from 2017.

Hawaii also has the highest rate in the U.S. of drunk driving incidents. In 2017, 39 percent of the traffic fatalities involved alcohol as compared to the 29 percent national average.

As a locally-founded insurance company serving our community, DTRIC has a responsibility to promote traffic safety in order to prevent senseless accidents and fatalities, and aims to do so through its Drive Aloha campaign.
