August 19, 2010 – In response to an increase in traffic-related pedestrian fatalities in Hawaii, DTRIC Insurance, in partnership with Tesoro Hawaii and the state Department of Transportation’s Walk Wise Hawaii program, held several community outreach events in the month of August designed to encourage motorists to drive aloha and watch out for pedestrians while on the road.

Lt. Governor James “Duke” Aiona recently proclaimed August to be “Pedestrian Safety Month,” making Hawaii the first state in the nation to create a statewide pedestrian safety initiative.  DTRIC and Walk Wise Hawaii held “Drive Aloha” safety events at several Tesoro stations on Oahu, washing windshields to promote better roadway vision while asking drivers to take a pledge to remain alert, aware and vigilant while driving.
